Rick Santorum Explains Gay Sex Isn't 'Equal' To Hetero Sex

Latest

If that 8-year-old boy had confronted Rick Santorum about his homophobic views rather than Michele Bachmann, he wouldn’t have been dismissed with a panicked look. Santorum would have explained that he opposes same-sex marriage because he wants to make sure boys like him are getting the message in school that their parents are amoral, un-American weirdos.

At a campaign event in Iowa yesterday, a recent college grad compared gay marriage to interracial marriage and asked why allowing gays to marry would be “a hit to faith and family in America.” Santorum replied:

“Really- wow- um okay, well let’s see if we can have a discussion. We can flesh out some, well, let’s look at what’s going to be taught in our schools because now we have same sex couples being the same and their sexual activity being seen as equal and being affirmed by society as heterosexual couples and their activity … So what is going to be taught to our people in health class in our schools? What is going to be taught to our children about who in our stories, even to little children – what are married couples? What families look like in America? So, you are going to have in our curriculum spread throughout our curriculum worldview that is fundamentally different than what is taught in schools today? Is that not a consequence of gay marriage?”

Well, we wouldn’t want kids learning that gay people and their bedroom habits aren’t icky. But if, as Santorum fears, we wind up living in a society where sixth graders learn about the joys of anal sex, the lessons should at least be accurate. Can we get Santorum to come to class as a guest speaker on the meaning of “Santorum”?
