According to TMZ, who obtained “documents” about the new Snooki/JWoww spin off, the show will be somewhat scripted. Worse still, the storyline will revolve around how stupid and inept the pair are, when it comes to “real-life problems.”
The storyline involves Snooki moving out of her parents’ house and becoming roommates with JWoww. The ladies want to buy a $1.5 million house, but they don’t know what a mortgage is, or how to write a check, and they keep getting distracted by how hot the mortgage broker is.
They’re shopping around for a house but don’t know what a mortgage is? They don’t know how to write a check? WTF? These two ladies both have successful side businesses of their own, not to mention that they’re both college-educated, technically functional members of society. Of all of the offensive things that have happened on Jersey Shore, this takes the cake, mostly because no one ever really delighted in the idea of JWoww and Snooki being “stupid.” What’s so appealing about these two women is that they are funny and no bullshit, but beyond that, they’ve exhibited something that’s extraordinarily rare among reality TV stars: A strong, positive female friendship.
Isn’t that what viewers have been responding to? Isn’t that realness what makes them actually stand out in the sea of fake tans and fake boobs that is the genre of reality TV? While it’s not surprising that their spin off show will be heavily outlined/scripted, it’s disappointing—and unrealistic—that producers are relying on a theme of “Girls are idiots!”
