TARGET is Now Openly Supporting Same-Sex Marriage
In DepthRetailer Target has joined other United States corporations in signing onto an amicus brief in a marriage equality case currently before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago, Illinois.
Target Executive Vice President Jodee Kozlak announced the company’s decision to sign onto the amicus brief in a statement Tuesday.
It is our belief that everyone should be treated equally under the law, and that includes rights we believe individuals should have related to marriage.
Target already offers equal benefits to same sex partners, and used the statement to address the company’s economic and personal issues with state laws banning same-sex marriage.
This position is particularly challenging for a large organization that operates nationally, such as Target. Current laws — in places like Wisconsin and Indiana that are addressed in this brief – make it difficult to attract and retain talent … We believe that everyone – all of our team members and our guests – deserve to be treated equally. And at Target we are proud to support the LGBT community.
