A woman in San Diego has pled not guilty to charges of felony DUI with injury and possession of a controlled substance after she drove the wrong way on a street and crashed into about 10 cyclists, leaving one paralyzed. When she was taken to a hospital to get checked out, a nurse found a bag of meth hidden in her vagina. Sigh.
“Tell them I’m so sorry,” she whispered to her attorney once the judge ordered her bail and set her next court hearing.
Owens was driving at about 30-35 mph on the wrong side of the road when she hit the group of cyclists going around a blind curve traveling at 25-30 mph. Owens was said to have been screaming and acting erratically when she got out of her car.
Six people went to the hospital, suffering from injuries. One man, 49-year-old Juan Carlos Vinolo, is in critical condition, paralyzed from the chest down after pushing another cyclist out of Owens’ way. A GoFundMe page has been started for Vinolo and has raised nearly $94,000.
Owens’ bail was set at $300,000.
