German filmmakers are turning the story Anne Frank’s life into a miniseries, due in 2015—the 70th anniversary of her death. The two-part miniseries will have a “more modern approach” to the story. Not sure what that means, but you probably still won’t be able to watch without sobbing inconsolably.
The Hollywood Reporter gives a little more background on the project, which’ll be a joint effort form German production group Constantin Film and the public broadcaster ZDF:
The series will trace the lives of Frank, her family and friends starting three years before they were forced into hiding by the Nazis. The focus in part will be the transformation of the young Frank from an extroverted young girl before her time in hiding to the increasingly introverted and reflective teenager seen in her diaries.
Nor is it the only project in the works. Deadline says the director of Waltz with Bashir, Ari Folman, is making an animated film. He’s been given unprecedented access to the archives of the Anne Frank Fonds Basel, which was founded by Otto Frank.
