'Being Losers' Is What Motivated Boston Bombers, Says Suspects' Uncle

Ruslan Tsarni, the paternal uncle of the two suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings, gave in impromptu press conference in front of his Maryland home saying that although the family are Muslims, he believes that his nephews actions were not religiously motivated, and that instead, this happened because they were “losers” who were not able to properly assimilate to their new country.

Tsnari said that he and his family have not had contact with his brother or his sons Tamerlan Tsarnaev (now dead) and Dzhokar Tsarnaev (still at large) in several years over “personal” matters, but that the young men’s father was not a religious extremist, and if the suspects had been radicalized, it was not by his brother. Additionally, while Tsnari said that they are ethnically Chechen, the suspects have never actually been to Chechnya.

Tsnari said that their family is ashamed of the brothers and gave an impassioned speech about America saying, “I respect this country. I love this country, which gives chance to everybody to be [a] human being.”
