Carly Rae Jepsen's New Music Video Is a Found-Footage Horror Film
EntertainmentIt’s not that one could actually expect a jump scare from this video (although that would be a fun innovation), but the way it’s shot is very reminiscent of many contemporary horror films. It’s intriguing and will keep you watching until the end, but also nothing much happens? It’s also feels like a strange and low-key followup to the video for “I Really Like You” which was a major hit thanks to the appearance of Tom Hanks. The music’s fine and the pop melodies are infectious, but the video won’t be for everyone. And even those who enjoy it will probably fall strongly into the “I like it” camp versus the “I love this video more than life itself” that releases from major pop stars usually garner.
The video was shot during Jepsen’s world travels and features some nice shots of New York and Paris, but is ultimately reminiscent of the messy BTS-style videos Tori Amos released to accompany Abnormally Attracted to Sin.
