Colorado Rep. Thinks College Ladies Don't Know When They're Going to Be Raped
Latest
Democrats say dumb things about rape, too: Colorado Rep. Joe Salazar was arguing in favor of HB 1226, a bill to ban guns on college campuses, when he started rambling about flighty college girls who just don’t know when they’re really in danger:
It’s why we have call boxes. It’s why we have safe zones. That’s why we have the whistles, because you just don’t know who you’re going to be shooting at. And you don’t know if you feel like you’re going to be raped, or if you feel like someone’s been following you around or if you feel like you’re in trouble when you may actually not be, that you pop out that gun and you pop…pop a round at somebody.
Oy. He later said that his words were misinterpreted, and House Speaker Mark Ferrandino defended him in a statement that reads, “Whatever his words may have been and however much those words are being taken out of context, he did the right thing to take responsibility…. I was there for the entire debate, and the overall point I understood him to be making is that guns on campus don’t mean you’re more safe.”
That’s a good point, but one that would be stronger without conjuring up hypothetical crazy female coeds flinging guns all over the place.
