According to this information, three of the top five broadcast TV shows this year are crime dramas. Wow. You all really like your Elliot Stablers, Horatio Caines, and Olivia Bensons of the world, don’t you?

This has resulted in what some (including my college media studies professors) call the “CSI Effect,” which essentially means that viewers of said shows tend to believe that the exaggerated portrayals of murders, crime scenes, and forensic science are actually acurate. So what, you’re telling me that you can’t magically test random items for semen stains?
