Hollywood Longs to Transform Rihanna Into a Family-Friendly Cartoon
LatestFact: Rihanna doesn’t give a shit what anyone thinks of her. She’s proved that time and time again, even if just through her Instagram account (handle: @badgalriri). So the rumors that DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg wants to turn her visage into an animated franchise is a little like…what?
According to a source who spoke with Radar Online, Katzenberg wants “globalize and sanitize” Rihanna’s image:
“Jeffrey has been tracking Robyn for a couple of years. He is a huge fan and believes the sky’s the limit if she can clean up her act to appeal to a wider audience,” the insider said.
“He sees a huge amount of money to be made there and wants to capitalize before somebody else does. He’s making pop-friendly movies and wants her to be in them.
“It’s time for Rihanna to go from R-rated to PG-rated. This is Jeffrey’s firm opinion and he’s doing all he can to make it happen.”
The article compares Rihanna to Chris Rock, who curses all the time and talks about less-than-appropriate topics in his standup, but still does voiceover work for animated films like Madagascar.
Except that Rihanna isn’t Chris Rock, who is in his late 40s and has children. She’s 25 years old and shows no sign of wanting to cater her image in any particular direction except one of controversy that doesn’t as much follow her but is actively courted by her. If anything, becoming an age-appropriate cartoon would be a step back for her, given that that’s more in line with her original image that she’s actively demonstrated wasn’t working for her.
The idea of turning Rihanna into a cartoon is actually a really cool one. That is, if it was an adult cartoon that depicted Rihanna as some sort of badass grown-up Powerpuff Girl, who smokes weed all the time and enjoys the occasional strip club but still manages to sell out massive stadiums. That could be a hit with an entirely different market.
*BTW the caption on the above photo from Rihanna’s Instagram, in which the singer engages in an activity that’s about as family-friendly as you can get (going to the zoo) is “Bitch stole my look.”
