Two months ago Ariana Grande was just a doughnut-licking America-hating pop star. In case you’ve forgotten the scandal of the summer, the 22-year-old was caught on video licking a doughnut at a California shop while she whispered, “I fucking hate America.”
But now that she’s older and wiser, Grande really understands the truly heinous repercussions of encouraging teens across this great nation to lick doughnuts.
“I think one of the biggest things I learned from that was what it feels like to disappoint so many people who love and believe in you,” Grande said during a penitent interview on Good Morning America. “And that’s an excruciating feeling.”
“You have to remember that your words, your actions, have, you know, ramifications and you have to really think about what you’re about to say and do because it’s important,” she added. “It’s important to so many people.”
Grande acknowledged that she was “just human,” and like all humans, she’s made some mistakes involving a doughnut shop (who among us can throw the first stone?) “I think that as human beings we all say and do things that we don’t mean at all sometimes and we have to learn from it,” Grande said. “It’s part of our process.”
Who knew that licking doughnuts led to such self-discovery?
