NBC Taps Downton Abbey Mastermind To Create New TV Show About Late 19th-Century New York

First, Downton Abbey premieres in the U.S. on Jan 6, then the show gets a fourth season, and now this?! Julian Fellowes, the Oscar and Emmy-winning creator/executive producer behind everyone’s favorite upstairs/downstairs he said/she said rom-com was nabbed by NBC to write and produce The Gilded Age, a drama that NBC describes as an “epic tale of the princes of the American Renaissance, and the vast fortunes they made – and spent – in late 19th-century New York.” So hot.

“This was a vivid time,” Fellowes said in a statement, “with dizzying, brilliant ascents and calamitous falls, of record-breaking ostentation and savage rivalry … a time when money was king.”

Who else is already busting out the penny-farthings, top hat and tails, and purple velvet watered silk two-piece cake toppers? The answer better be all of you. Also, who’s hosting the viewing party? And who should they cast? I think they should start with all of us and end with Michael Fassbender as our deviant Washington Square lover. So excited.

Also, I hope a young Dowager Countess makes a cameo — it seems possible, right? Please tell me I’m right, I can’t live in a world where that’s not a possibility.
