"Shiva Sisters" Make Business Out Of Helping Mourners

Latest

Friends Danna Black and Allison Moldo have started an event planning business in L.A. with a focus on Jewish mourners. They call themselves the “Shiva Sisters,” though they don’t actually “sit shiva” with families or plan funerals. They arrange after-funeral gatherings and advise clients, who often don’t live near family members or attend synagogue often, on Jewish customs. Many funeral parlors are beginning to offer similar services for people of all faiths. “They kind of just swoop in and mother you,” said one Shiva Sisters client. “They’re not just planning a party and an event, but they’re compassionate and understanding at a time when people are grieving.”
