The Fantastic "Great Wall Of Vagina" Exhibit [NSFW]

While dudes can surreptitiously compare their junk during forced communal peeing sessions, due to restroom etiquette (and anatomy) women don’t get many opportunities to see other women’s genitals. A new exhibition on display in Brighton, England aims to change this, by displaying 400 plaster casts of vulvas.

British artist Jamie McCartney, who has previously done “internal pussy castings,” has been working on the 9-meter long wall sculpture for years. According to his website,

McCartney set out to make this project as broad and inclusive as possible. The age range of the women is from 18 to 76. Included are mothers and daughters, identical twins, transgendered men and women as well as a woman pre and post natal and another one pre and post labiaplasty.

The issues surrounding a male artist whose work focuses on vulvas was already explored in that episode of Sex and the City in which Charlotte poses for a painting of her lady bits, but McCartney insists his goal is purely to educate women about what normal genitals look like in a non-porn setting.

While many women have already gotten the message that no two vulvas are alike, the growing number of cosmetic labial surgery procedures suggests many still think they look weird “down there.” “If this sculpture helps just one woman decide not to proceed with unnecessary plastic surgery on their genitals then it will have succeeded,” says McCartney.
