The Rock Owned Mother's Day With This Sweet Tribute to His Own Mom

It was never apparent to me, when my little brother was watching wrestling 24/7, that the man demanding to know if we could smell what “The Rock” was cooking or referring to haters as “jabronis” would become a cultural icon outside of professional wrestling. But the Instagram he posted of his mom yesterday should make pretty much all of us glad that he did. Get your goddamn hankies, ready, here’s a dude treating his mom right.

On Sunday, Dwayne Johnson posted the following picture to Instagram. It shows his mom crying into her breakfast on a plane, and lest you think it’s because airline food is so bad (it’s not, I love it!), he’s also posted a description of why it is that she can’t hold back her emotions in the presence of a plate of scrambled eggs.

Here’s the caption that accompanied the photo, which is where the part about having your hankie nearby comes in handy. Whether you have a great relationship with your mom or haven’t spoken to her in years, this is a great reminder of the kind of general love and support that we associate with motherhood as a concept. And plus, reading about anyone crying into their breakfast is an excellent way to remind yourself that it’s going to be a good day.

Cool Mother’s Day story.. early am flight and I’m sittin’ across from my mom when out of the blue she looks around the plane, then looks at me and says “Son, I can’t believe the life I have.. grandma and grandpa would be so proud.” I asked her, “Are you happy ma?”. Just then the flight attendant placed my moms breakfast down on the table and my mom said to me, “Am I happy?.. I used to worry about how I was going to buy groceries for us and now I just had my breakfast placed down in front of me”. She bursts into tears and says “Yes, son I couldn’t be happier”. This is the woman who when I was 14yrs old we were evicted out of our apartment in Hawaii ‘cause we couldn’t afford the $180 per week rent. At this moment Im shaking my head and smiling quietly (as my mom blows her nose;) ‘cause she just told me she’s happy. And y’all know when our parents tell us they’re happy, its so satisfying for us, ‘cause it means we’ve done a good job for them as their kids. Happy Mother’s Day to all the deserving amazing mamas out there. The other great thing about this, and hear me out, is that you no longer have to try as hard to please your mom next year. Do what you can to make her day special, but unless you’re a multi-millionaire with a private plane? You’re off the hook. Just don’t take her to Outback Steak House, where they’ve been serving the mother’s day menu since last week just in case you didn’t have time to go on the actual day.
