Amy Poehler and Natasha Lyonne Are Making Sweet Television Together
LatestNBC has picked up a pilot from Amy Poehler, which was created as part of her three year production deal with the company.
This was a good weekend for Poehler; fresh off her successful hosting of the Golden Globes with Tina Fey (plus winning her own award) and the unofficial renewal of Parks and Recreation for a seventh season, Deadline reports that her new show stars Orange is the New Black cast member Natasha Lyonne. Right now it’s called Old Soul, and is about “a young woman who’s trying to find herself, but in the meantime she’s working as the aide to a group of opinionated elderly people.”
“This show, hopefully, will blow up some of the cliches we think about old people,” said NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt. “It’s been a while since The Golden Girls gave us a funny and insightful ensemble of seniors, and I hope this show will do that too.”
Poehler and Fey are basically taking over the NBC comedy landscape, as they both have deals with the network to create multiple shows. Over the weekend it was announced that Fey’s still untitled show about a women’s college that begins allowing men to matriculate had added actor Brandon Jones to its cast as one of those said dudes. But the news of Lyonne’s collaboration on this new show begs the question: what will happen to Nicky on OINTB?! Clearly the only true way to solve this conundrum is with a crossover.
