Internet Floods Yelp With Gay Reviews for Homophobic Restaurateur
LatestLast week, an Oklahoma restaurant owner gave a local news station a truly appalling interview, bragging of his ability to spot “freaks” and claiming he didn’t want gays around because “any man that would compromise his own body would compromise anything.”
The interview came on the heels of a discrimination lawsuit by a onetime regular and a flood of complaints about Gary’s discriminatory business practices. He also ranted about people on welfare in the course of his convo with KFOR, which reports that the restaurant’s t-shirts also feature “derogatory slogans against homosexuals, it has the N-word on the front and threatens violence against Muslims, minorities and democrats.”
Well, UpRoxx reports that the Internet has now responded in the manner it does so well: troll swarm! Everywhere you look for Gary’s Chicaros on the Internet, you’ll now find a proliferation of new negative reviews. Most of the energy has been concentrated on Yelp, where the business now has more than 150 reviews—with only a couple even remotely friendly.
Some folks took a straightforward approach, simply assigning the joint one star and linking to a write-up of Gary’s antics:
Then there were the glory hole jokes:
Others, however, waxed poetic about the glories of Gary’s as gay bar:
It’s been renamed “Chicaro Club” on Yelp, and it’s now tagged as a gay bar on Facebook, as well.
But perhaps the most damning review comes from a local, who wrote it before the interview and ensuing Internet shit-storm:
Why would anyone want to eat at this place anyway? A mediocre steak and a helluva better salad can be found at any Sizzlin’ Sirloin or Golden Corral. And those places actually have side dishes. At Chicaro’s the only things you get with your meat are hate, indigestion and stale cigarette smoke.
No better than the Golden Corral? Way harsh.
