This Is What America Was Most Thankful for This Year, State by State

What were you most thankful for this Thanksgiving? If you live in Kansas, it might have been Google. If you’re a Floridian, it probably was living near the beach.

After the holiday wrapped up, Facebook took a not-even-creepy-at-all look at what users posted to express thanks for . In California, people were thankful for YouTube. A lot of Southern states were thankful for God. Nevada and Wyoming are super thankful for country music, because what would a holiday be without taking time out to remember that Dolly Parton exists and makes music because she truly loves us. Illinois residents must really like their in-laws and people in Michigan are just really thankful that they are not freezing their asses off with out electricity.

For those interested in how they compiled the info, here’s what Facebook had to say:

We started by collecting a set of anonymized English status updates that contained “grateful” or “thankful,” as well as the word “day” preceded or followed by a number. These status updates were then aggregated and processed by a text-clustering algorithm so we could identify what people were grateful for.
One of the first things we discovered is that the people who participated in this challenge were overwhelmingly women: 90% of people who participated identified as female on their profile. There are a number of explanations for why this might be: women may be more likely to participate in challenges such as this; women may be more likely to nominate other women than men; women may be more willing to share what they are grateful for on Facebook; etc. To be clear, we think it is unlikely that women are actually more grateful than men.

Also, here’s a list of the top ten things people were most thankful for:

I do not see Vodka mentioned on here at all. Which is weird because I thanked Vodka many, many, many times on and before Thanksgiving. I guess this whole thing is just rigged against me.
