Watch The Woman Addicted To Eating Couch Cushions
Latest
Joining the bizarre circus that constitutes the entire genre of reality TV is TLC’s My Strange Addiction. Last night’s episode featured a 30-year-old woman who has eaten seven couches and two chairs—and she can’t stop.
The thing about My Strange Addiction is that it feels like it’s a parody of Intervention, with montages of damaging behavior, and explanation of its gateway, and pinpointing a traumatic event in the subject’s life to which it can be linked, all played over ominous music meant to illustrate this person’s peril. Except this is about couch cushions. This problem is serious (the following clip explains the potential health hazards), but watching Adele, the addict, make a snack pack of cushion so that she can eat it in her car seems almost too absurd to be real—you’re so preoccupied with the condition itself that almost distracts from the seriousness of the problem. If you’re wondering how Adele’s addiction has negatively affected her family, don’t worry, it was explained: She ate all of the shoulder pads out of her mother’s dresses.
