British club imp Cara Delevingne is everywhere lately — the tabloids, the runways, the internet, sporting events, tha clubs. She’s even in the pages of Vogue magazine. Sleeping.
In a profile written by Plum Sykes, the model slash everything set the tone for how the rest of the interview would go early, showing up very late to an interview that occurs literally just down the block from her house.
Cara has overslept. “I always wake up ten minutes before I have to be anywhere,” she explains. Luckily she lives around the corner with her parents, so she hasn’t had to tumble too far.
OK. Fine. She’s like 21 years old. 21-year-olds oversleep all the time.
But do they take naps during the middle of an interview? I contend they do not.
Delevingne kicks off the interview she slept into by suggesting she and Sykes get massages and then go visit a farm in the country. Fine, says Sykes. They both retreat into separate rooms, and then,
An hour later I await Cara on a wicker lounger. I am definitely relaxed enough for the interview. I read a magazine, have some tea, look at the time. Fifteen minutes pass. No Cara. Half an hour. Finally a masseuse appears and whispers to me that Cara has fallen asleep. “I went to take her some water after her treatment and she was out. Shall I wake her up?”
Sykes decides to let Cara sleep, and when she wakes up, plans to visit the farm for the Vogue interview have been scrapped.
Cara finally appears, looking refreshed after her rest. “I’m so sorry!!!” she exclaims, collapsing into a chair. “I fall asleep everywhere! Someone recently asked if they could publish a book of pictures of me sleeping, because there are so many.”
Cara Delevingne literally cannot stop falling asleep, Sykes discovers.
I call photographer Tim Walker, who has worked with Cara many times. “Every shoot I’ve done with her, she’s fallen asleep,” he tells me. “She slept for seven hours on one Mulberry shoot.”
Sort of cute, but also worrisome, right? People shouldn’t sleep that much, all the time, right?
