Catching Up With Guys Who Love Dolls

Latest

In 2007, we covered Guys and Dolls, a British documentary about men who have relationships with their extravagant and lifelike sex toys known as Real Dolls. Last night, NatGeo’s Taboo revisited some of the men featured in the film.

Davecat was most memorable from the original documentary for repeatedly making making the distinction between “synthetic” and “organic” humans (he prefers the former). So what’s new with him? It looks like he moved out of his parents’ house, and he said that he and his doll are now married.

The irony of his wife’s mood ring might be lost on Davecat. On last night’s episode, he mentioned that what he likes about their relationship is that he can avoid interacting with his doll whenever he wants, and not feel guilty about it.

Interestingly, last night’s episode of Taboo explored an issue that was never touched on in Guys and Dolls, namely, that and these guys’ preference for inanimate objects over people might be indicators of Asperger’s, a form of autism. This was the same theory presented in Strange Love: Married to the Eiffel Tower, a documentary about Objectum Sexuals that featured women who are in love with inanimate objects (none of which even look human).
