Could Text Messages Help You Quit Smoking?

Latest

A new study found that receiving motivational text messages could increase your chances of giving up cigarettes. British researchers separated 5,800 people who wanted to quit smoking into two groups. Half were sent texts like “Cravings last less than 5 minutes on average. To help distract yourself, try sipping a drink slowly until the craving is over” and the others received generic messages. At the end of the study, 10.7% of those who received encouraging messages had quit, which was twice the percentage in the control group.
