Fifty Shades Hotel Won't Open on Schedule Thanks to Nearby Church
LatestSad news if you wanted to visit an “erotic hotel” in Vilafranca, Spain, inspired by Fifty Shades of Grey: It won’t open on Friday because it’s too close to a chapel.
The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop:
The Roissy Castle, named after a chateau in the 1954 erotic novelThe Story of O, was set to open Friday with 20 rooms and four dungeons where guests can take part in BDSM (bondage, discipline, dominance, submission, sadism and masochism) activities.
The owner, who is remaining anonymous, has touted the hotel as a place where guests can “enjoy games, flaunt themselves and share experiences with other visitors,” according to Spanish website The Local. A bar and restaurant were opened on the site earlier this summer.
“With the Fifty Shades of Grey phenomenon in full swing, I saw a business opportunity that hadn’t been exploited yet in Spain,” the owner said.
But the town council is saying the hotel is too close to a chapel “where dozens of people come every day to visit the village’s patron saint.”
So… Are we blaming God? Or Fear of God? Or fear of offending the holy? Don’t some Roman Catholics get into flagellation? Also, it’s not like the BDSM is happening in the streets, right? It’s all behind closed doors. And who knows, maybe after a long day praying to the patron saint, some people want to see a good paddling.
