Gay British Men Can Donate Blood, As Long As They Don't Have Sex

Latest

Are you a homosexual man who hasn’t gotten laid in 10 years? Here’s a small consolation prize: You can now give blood in the U.K.! All donated blood is screened for HIV and other STDs, but sometimes the diseases haven’t shown up by the time the blood is tested. A British advisory committee found the risk of HIV in the blood supply would only increase 5% if men were prevented from donating for five years after having gay sex, so officials doubled the term to 10 years to halve the risk. It’s believed that 7% of sexually active gay men are already giving blood despite the ban.
