Gay Marriage Bill Fails In Maryland

On Friday the bill that would have allowed same-sex couples to marry in Maryland failed to get enough votes, leaving no chance that it will pass this year. Democrats had enough seats in the House of Delegates to pass the bill, but one third of the party’s members opposed it. Anti-marriage equality groups also gave credit to African-American and church leaders for helping to defeat the bill, which would have made Maryland the sixth state to legalize gay marriage.
