Geoffrey Owens: 'No One Should Feel Sorry For Me' For Working at Trader Joe's

CelebritiesDirt Bag

Days after dealing with the whiplash of being shamed and then celebrated for having a day job at Trader Joes, actor Geoffrey Owens (who played Elvin, the charmingly skittish husband of the worst Huxtable child Sandra, on The Cosby Show) went on Good Morning America to chat with Robin Roberts.

Owens said he didn’t even have time to be “devastated” by the photos (initially published by Fox News and The Daily Mail) because the wave of supporting tweets and responses, which he read with his wife, followed so shortly after. Said Owens:

“It’s really overwhelming, in a good way… It came out of nowhere. I really want to thank everybody out there [for the] amazing support and positivity that they’ve shown for me. It’s quite astounding.”

Owens says he worked at Trader Joes for 15 months, and that people approached him “every day” to say that they recognized him. (People writes that Owens had to “quit over the attention,” but after watching the full interview twice, I can’t say that I heard that line.) He goes on to say that he would not accept an acting job because of this because he wants to earn jobs based on his merit. He would, however, accept an audition.

But the main takeaway from the interview is that Owens is just fine. As the segment ended, Owens said:

“There is no job that’s better than another job. It might pay better, it might have better benefits, it might look better on a resume and on paper. But actually, it’s not better. Every job is worthwhile and valuable…No one should feel sorry for me. I’ve had a great life. I’ve had a great career. I’ve had a career that most actors would die for. So no one has to feel sorry for me. I’m doing fine!”

Per TMZ, Demi Lovato’s alleged drug dealer Brandon Johnson “won’t be investigated” for her OD. Despite the video released last week in which he admits to providing drugs for the singer, “law enforcement sources say he’s off the hook.” They write:

We’re told he won’t be investigated for the incident because an overdose is categorized as a medical emergency, and a self-induced one at that. Bottom line is … Johnson walks free.

Huh.
