In Case You Weren't Sure, Trump Official Makes it Super Clear That He Thinks Abortion Rights Are Over

The Trump administration, salivating over the seat vacated by Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, continues to make it abundantly clear that ending abortion access is a top priority for them.

The Wichita Eagle reports that Roger Severino, head of the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights, last week spoke at a convention for the largest anti-abortion group in the country, the National Right to Life. There, he called Trump “fearless when it comes to life and conscience,” and pledged that the administration was “just getting started.”

HHS is staffed with anti-choice extremists who have blocked unaccompanied minors from receiving abortions, insisted that human life begins at conception, and preach abstinence as sex education to teens.

During his remarks, Severino also relayed a story about a Catholic nurse who was required to perform an abortion, which violated her religious beliefs. “It happened in America and it should never happen again,” Severino said. “This administration is dedicated to making sure it never happens again.”

His comments echo those of Vice President Mike Pence, who vowed in February that abortion will end “in our time.”

Donald Trump, who also supports overturning Roe v. Wade, attempted to side-step a question about his views in an interview with Fox Business on Sunday. “Well, maybe someday it will be [up] to the states, you never know how that’s gonna turn out, that’s a very complex question,” he told Maria Bartiromo. “But we’ll see what happens.” What we can see right now, though, is that it’s already happening.
