North Carolina GOP Official Shares Fake Photo of Christine Blasey Ford, Says She Wasn't a Hot Teen

NewsPolitics

A North Carolina official is the latest, and perhaps grossest, example of the Republican party’s desire to mock sexual assault survivors.

The News & Observer reports that Cabarrus County Republican Chair Lanny Lancaster shared a Facebook post that claimed to be a photo of Christine Blasey Ford in 1982. In the photo, a teenage girl is wearing braces and thick, tinted glasses (you may recognize the photo from a 2012 meme). “This is the alleged sexual assault victim. Wow,” Lancaster wrote in the post. Ford was 15 at the time of her alleged assault.

North Carolina Democratic congressional candidate Frank McNeill included the post in an email blast, writing that it was an “assault on the safety and dignity of American women,” the News & Observer reported.

If anyone was tempted to give Lancaster the benefit of the doubt, when asked for comment by the News & Observer, he made his rapey, anti-victim message explicitly clear: “The media wants you to think she was a beautiful young lady who was on her way home from the tennis courts… ” Lancaster said. “I just wanted you to see the real person. I wanted people to see that this is really her.”

“I didn’t say anything. I just said this is her picture. Basically, the media is distorting the facts on this lady. Everything she’s said is made up,” he said. “She has no evidence whatsoever. I support that theory.”

I’m giving it two days until Don Jr. shares this disgusting meme with his followers.
