Panic! At the Disco Trolls Westboro Church in Best Way Possible
LatestPanic! At the Disco found a great way to respond to a hate group that targeted them for protest this weekend.
Last week, idiots from the Westboro Baptist Church announced plans to protest Panic! At The Disco’s Kansas City, Missouri show. Why? Because the band is the just the latest in a long line of targets the church has sought out to seek attention for their anti-gay views. Via MTV:
On Thursday (July 17), the church members even went so far as to record a homophobic parody of Panic! At The Disco’s 2006 single “I Write Sins Not Tragedies,” off the record A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out , dubbing their version “You Love Sin What a Tragedy.” You can listen to the terrible rendition at their website: godhatesf-gs.com.
Their song blatantly mocks queer sexuality, even including slurs in its lyrics. Panic! At The Disco frontman Brendon Urie has opened up before about his own fluid sexuality—though he’s now married to wife Sarah Orzechowski.
When members of WBC announced plans to protest the show, the band decided to do something about it. They promised to give $20 to an LGBT charity for each member of the church who showed up to protest them.
But here’s the best part—the fundraiser for the Human Rights Campaign didn’t work out so well because only 13 protesters showed up. That’s wasn’t good enough for Panic! At the Disco’s members, so they’ve promised to donate more money to HRC.
Another good example of feeding trolls until they explode, and in this case helping raise money for a great cause in the process.
