Ruth Bader Ginsburg Took a Sick Day

Politics

I do not mean to alarm you, but Ruth Bader Ginsburg is missing oral arguments on Monday—the first day that she has missed since she was appointed to the bench in 1993, 25 years ago.

According to Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg, Ginsburg is still recovering from a December surgery and will work “on the basis of briefs, filings and transcripts,” from home, CNBC reports. This means that Ginsburg will not be able to ask questions during Monday’s arguments.

In late 2018, she had two more health scares: after breaking her ribs from a fall, Ginsburg underwent another surgery in December to remove cancerous lumps from her lung. Upon release from the hospital, doctors said “there was no evidence of any remaining disease,” and “no further treatment is planned.”

Best wishes for a swift recovery to Justice Ginsburg, a woman who dreamed of having eight women seated next to her, and instead got stuck with Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.
