Sophie Turner 'Loved' Sansa's Game of Thrones Wedding Night Scene

Latest

This post contains spoilers: On last night’s Game of Thrones, “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken,” Sansa finally married Winterfell’s most eligible sadist, Ramsay Bolton. The setting of their nuptials—at night, in the woods, as it snowed—made it abundantly clear that this would not be cause for celebration, and that sense of dread continued as the newly married couple returned to their bedroom… along with Theon Greyjoy.

What happened next—Ramsey raping his new bride and forcing Theon to stay in the room and watch—was one of the most unpleasant viewing experiences the frequently unpleasant show has yet given its viewers; the scene was a stomach-churning psychological and physical attack from one of the show’s most brutal characters on two of its most sympathetic (and most brutalized). But Sophie Turner recently told Entertainment Weekly that she “secretly loved” it.

When I read that scene, I kinda loved it. I love the way Ramsay had Theon watching. It was all so messed up. It’s also so daunting for me to do it. I’ve been making [producer Bryan Cogman] feel so bad for writing that scene: “I can’t believe you’re doing this to me!” But I secretly loved it.

Though she enjoyed the challenge of filming the scene, the 19-year-old actress said she “completely” agrees that the show is going out of its way to make Sansa’s life hell.

After Joffrey, she’s escaped him and you think she’s going to lose her virginity to a guy who’s really sweet and takes care of her and she’s thrown in with a guy who’s a whole lot worse. But I kind of like the fact she doesn’t really know what a psycho he is until that night. She has a sense, but she’s more scared of his father. And then that night everything gets so f–ked up.

“So fucked up” is as big of an understatement as a resident of Westeros saying, “I think it might get a little cold this winter.”
