The Kardashian Sisters Have No Idea What 'Jumping the Shark' Means
Latest
On Sunday night’s episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, we learned that Kim, Khloé and Kourtney do not keep up with klassic katchy kolloquialisms, particularly ones that may be used to refer to their television futures.
The episode covered Kim’s appearance at the Re/code’s Code/Mobile conference in October, where she was interviewed by Kara Swisher about, among other things, her favorite social media platforms, how she interacts with her fans, and the astonishing success of her game, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood. As Swisher noted before she introduced Kim on stage, her decision to feature Kim at a tech conference was met with a lot of scoffing (though the ultimate interview was somewhat mesmerizing).
When she announced Kim’s appearance in a blog post entitled “Is Kim Kardashian West a Mobile Genius? I’ll Find Out at Code/Mobile,” Swisher wrote, “Why would I want to interview her, asked one tweeter, when I had had people like Apple’s Steve Jobs onstage? Had I jumped the shark, posited another.”
While “jumped the shark” is a fairly common phrase used in the television landscape (a world the Kardashians are firmly a part of), per last night’s episode, it appears that the original three do not understand the phrase. “Why would you even be on a shark?” wondered Khloé. Ask the Fonz!
