Tucker Carlson's Show Is Losing Advertisers After Comment that Immigrants Make the U.S. 'Dirtier'

Politics

As we near the end of the year, it’s important to celebrate small victories amid the billowing cumulous cloud of shit in whose shadow we constantly live. One of those victories is that advertisers are fleeing Tucker Carlson Tonight after its muppet host made the comment last week that immigrants are making the U.S. “dirtier.”

Carlson is known for sprinkling his segments with casual or overt racism on a regular basis. But apparently, it took him arguing against immigration because it “make[s] our own country poorer and dirtier and more divided” to draw the attention of advertisers, four of which pulled ads from Tucker Carlson Tonight.

“Nobody even tries to defend it,” he said during the show. “Instead, our leaders demand that you shut up and accept it. We have a moral obligation to admit the world’s poor, they tell us, even if it makes our own country poor and dirtier and more divided.”

In response, Bowflex, Pacific Life, Indeed and SmileDirectClub have all opted to pull their ads.

“We have requested that Fox News remove our ads from airing in conjunction with ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’ in the future. Aside from our decision to remove our ads from his show, we have no other association or affiliation with Mr. Carlson,” Bowflex’s parent company, Nautilus, Inc., said in a statement.

True to form, Carlson doubled down on his comment Monday night, insisting that immigrants were responsible for piles of trash in the desert that “degrade the soil” and “kill wildlife;” a pretty thin argument from a guy who just last year humiliated himself attempting to deny climate change in a debate with Bill Nye.

“They want us just to mouth the empty platitudes,” he mewled. “Those who won’t shut up get silenced.

“You’ve seen it a million times, it happens all the time: the enforcers scream ‘racist’ on Twitter until everybody gets intimidated and changes the subject to the Russia investigation or some other distraction.”

Blegh. Watching this makes me remember why thumbs don’t usually talk.
