Westboro Baptist Church Accepts Comedian's Offer to Picket ISIS in Iraq

Latest

The Islamic State (known as ISIS) is a vicious group of extremists, carrying out horrific attacks, kidnappings, and murders and they are proving to be one helluva foreign policy shit show. So obviously, it follows that the organization most suited to dealing with such extremists would be the Westboro Baptist Church, right?

Upon hearing that the WBC intended on protesting the funeral of Robin Williams (because of course they would) Australian comedian Adam Hills challenged the hate-group on his show The Last Leg. Via the Advocate:

“If you really believe in standing up to those threatening the Christian way of life, Westboro Baptist Church, how about putting your money where your mouth is, taking a direct flight to Iraq,” he said this week, also offering to pay for first-class airfare.

WBC responded on Twitter that they accepted Hill’s offer because nothing would be more glorious and affirming than having something potentially horrific and inhumane happen to members of your organization at the hands of an equally hateful, but far more militant, effective, and fucking terrifying organization!

While plenty of people contacted Hills to contribute money for the plane tickets, Hills opted instead to donate the money he raised to an online crowdfunding campaign. Remembering Robin: A Benefit for St Jude is specifically aimed at overpowering the hatred of WBC with love…and donations toward St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause Robin Williams championed.

As hilarious as that would have been conceptually, it’s not like the WBC hate-mongerers deserve any kind of notice or recognition. Definitely not first class flights. (Surely, they must be thanking their stars that they received even that much attention.) Nope, let’s allow the legacy of Fred Phelps (but legacy in the sense of when a dude accidentally gets his own semen on his face) just fade away.
