The Best and Worst Looks from the SAG Awards Red Carpet

Saturday night at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, things were hit and miss on the red carpet. There were ensembles that were very good! But there were also some that were very bad. And a few that were terribly ugly. Let’s take a look.

First: A couple of boyfriends for you. There were some other gentlemen in attendance, but these two seem especially important. Not even going to ID them because you know who they are. They are your boyfriends.

Ummmm… How about we get the ugly out of the way, very quickly? Mayim Bialik‘s voluminous shiny lacy bordello curtain extravaganza is part Gunne Sax dress, part ’80s bathroom shower curtain. As for Raini Rodriguez — at least she looks like she is having fun.

For a palate cleanser: One of the best dressed of the night! Hannah Simone in a whisper-light Marchesa gown. Gorge ring by Dionea Orcini. STUNNING.

Steely grays: Kaley Cuoco was cinched-in; Rita Wilson sparkled.

Ladies and gentlemen, Sofia Vergara, the slinky human disco ball.

More pale hues: American Horror Story‘s Sarah Paulson, Game Of Thrones star Maisie Williams, Isla Fisher in silver screen silver.

Natalie Dormer: That time Anne Boleyn was in The Fifth Element.

Also keeping things light: Nancy O’Dell, Gretchen Mol.

Spectacular look for Elisabeth Rohm of Law & Order and American Hustle.

Perfect hair.

Mixed feelings about the Cate Blanchett‘s sequined dinner napkin.

Although mullet dresses can be problematic, Modern Family‘s Sarah Hyland‘s is pretty.

A few more light-colored lovely looks: Laura Carmichael — aka Lady Edith Crawley of Downton Abbey; Game of ThronesSibel Kekilli; TV presenter Maria Menounos; Emilia Clarke, aka Daenerys Targaryen.

First we heard about wedding crop tops. Now Kerry Washington has introduced us to the maternity crop top. Sure. Why not.

Julia Roberts took a page from the Bianca Jagger/Studio 54/American Hustle playbook in a hot pink jumpsuit.

The ladies in red: Rizzoli & Isles star Sasha Alexander; Patricia Arquette.

Ravishing in red: Mad Men‘s Elisabeth Moss; Holly Hunter.

Scarlet and giving a damn: Extra host Renee Bargh.

In sunny marigold: 12 Years A Slave star Adepero Oduye; Camilla Alves.

Green is good: Jane Krakowski; Sandra Bullock.

Florals for Zoe Kazan and Juliette Lewis.

The makeup is a little off, in my opinion, but Lupita Nyong’o is still wearing the hell out of dresses that complement her figure and skin tone.

Blue belles: Kelly Osbourne; Kathy Griffin.

Romantic, fluid blue gowns on Modern Family‘s Ariel Winter and Homeland‘s Morena Baccarin.

An indigo gown with a structured top and slinky bottom is fabulous on Amy Adams.

Mindy Kaling looked absolutely amazing in deep navy. Plus, her manicure matched her clutch and she was sitting next to Brad Pitt!

Another stunner in navy: Anna Chlumsky.

Similarly: Julia Louis-Dreyfus; Jennifer Garner.

Blue with embellishments: August Osage‘s Julianne Nicholson; Amanda Peet.

Dazzling like a gem: Breaking Bad‘s Anna Gunn.

Oprah was all about the purple reign; Alfre Woodard channeled a sparkling lake.

Jennifer Lawrence talked about how this Dior gown gave her “armpit vaginas.”

A bit busy: Nurse Jackie‘s Edie Falco; Trophy Wife‘s Malin Ackerman.

Yeah, NO: Rose Leslie from Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey in bedspreads from differently themed motel rooms; Modern Family‘s Julie Bowen in an origami project gone wrong.

Power ponytail: Entertainment Tonight‘s Rocsi Diaz.

Michelle Dockery aka Lady Mary of Downton Abbey: Glorious in high contrast black and white punctuated with bright red lips.

Back in black: August Osage County star Margo Martindale; NCIS‘s Pauley Perrette; Jessica Walter aka Arrested Development‘s Lucille Bluth; Ms. Mariah Carey.

Blondes in black: Game of Thrones Gwendoline Christie; August Osage‘s Abigail Breslin.

Inky black for Portia de Rossi and Veep‘s Sufe Bradshaw.

Really well done: Sophie Turner, aka Sansa Stark from Game of Thrones and Sophie McShera, aka Daisy from Downton Abbey.

Black and gold: 30 Rock‘s Katrina Bowden; the legendary Rita Moreno.

Flawless and cool Meryl Streep looked flawless and cool.

At the Golden Globes Emma Thompson said of high heels: “They’re so painful. And pointless.” This was not a joke. And so she showed up to the SAG awards in FLATS. We’re not worthy of you, oh wise one.

Finally, looking so regal and magnificent everyone else looks cheap and trite: Best dressed and best tressed and best best, Dame Helen Mirren.
