Marilyn Manson Is the New Face of Saint Laurent

Marilyn Manson is in the spring Saint Laurent campaign. There he is, staring out at you from the pages of a magazine and everything. Casting the 90s star in an ad is just one of the many things Hedi Slimane is doing to revamp the fashion house’s brand image that you are probably not cool enough to “get.” [Nicola Formichetti]

Lanvin is launching a new women’s perfume called Me. Speaking of repeats, perhaps the most notable thing about this perfume is that, rather than shooting something new, the brand opted to recycle an image of Iselin Steiro from its spring, 2009, campaign for the ads. [WWD]

  • American Apparel just found a way around another of the biggest obstacles to the struggling company’s future success: its debt. The clothier had owed $137 million at a usurious 18% interest rate (the rate was high because the company continually missed sales and profitability targets tied to the loan) and another $56 million at 9.5% interest. In a complete overhaul of its debt, American Apparel, with an underwriter, is doing a private bond offering of $206 million worth of secured bonds at 13% interest. American Apparel also has a revolving credit facility with a new bank worth $30 million. Standard & Poors have rated American Apparel’s bonds a B-, the same grade it gives the credit-worthiness of the company as a whole. [WWD]
  • After model Cameron Russell‘s TED talk went viral last December, she started an online magazine called Interrupt. It focuses on publishing original work by women who are marginalized by the mainstream media. “We can’t just pay attention to women who look fantastic in a photograph, because there are a lot of people that have fantastic thing to say that don’t look like 25-year-old, white models,” Russell, herself a 25-year-old white model, explains to ABC. Interrupt says:
  • We knew that a critical discussion about women in mass media–both behind the camera and in front–was long overdue, so we seized the opportunity to ask: How are different groups of women depicted? Who is ignored, and why? And what do we have to do – and not do – in order to be seen and heard? We launched this collaborative media experiment because an honest and constructive conversation requires that we listen to (and hear from) many different voices.
