MTV Beach House Is Getting Resurrected

Latest

Some of us were too young to make the trip to MTV Beach House in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s, where slow roasted twenty-somethings were held in a pool pen next to Carson Daly as he awkward interviewed visiting celebrities. Sadly, some of us are now too old to enjoy its revival as it should be enjoyed—sun’s out, buns out.

Variety reports that a revamped MTV Beach House will be playing via “on-air interstitials” plus all the behind-the-scenes content harried interns can produce and spew out on the social media channels for MTV, Comedy Central and Spike. And yes, it is sponsored by Mountain Dew, according to a statement from Matthew Newcomb, vice president of integrated marketing at MTV:

“Snapchat, Twitter and Facebook Live didn’t even exist when we last opened the MTV Beach House as the ultimate summer hangout for our audience 14 years ago. We’re thrilled to partner with Mtn Dew Spiked Lemonade to bring back the Beach House in a totally updated way that speaks to a new generation of digitally native fans.”

The non-stop party begins June 8 with an MTV Beach House Festival, featuring “MisterWives, KYLE and more.” There are tickets to the event available through a sweepstakes on the MTV Twitter account, and I might actually go for it. You’re never too old to forget to wear sunscreen and embarrass yourself on live TV. As Chauncey Hamlett, senior director of marketing at Mountain Dew, said, “Bringing back the MTV Beach House is one of those can’t miss moments we love to bring to Dew Nation.”
