Moviegoers Don't Want To See Mel Gibson's Hand Puppet
LatestMel Gibson’s The Beaver came out this weekend, and it seems most of us chose to look the other way, lest we become overwhelmed by vicarious embarrassment. The film made only $104,000 in 22 theaters across the country. That makes the per-screen average $4,745, far less than the $15,000 to $18,000 the studio was hoping for. We’d like to say the film flopped because Americans have no tolerance for domestic abusers, but sadly, people are still paying to see Charlie Sheen’s Violent Torpedo of Nonsense tour.
