Democracy Is Thriving: Nancy Mace Told Hunter Biden He Has ‘No Balls’ and He Reportedly ‘Smirked’
The president's son made a surprise appearance in Congress on Wednesday and made quite the splash—by sitting silently in the audience with his attorneys
On Wednesday, Hunter Biden made a surprise appearance in Congress to attend a contentious House Oversight Committee meeting that discussed whether he should be held in contempt of Congress for ignoring a subpoena. And Republicans remained professional, calm, and collected throughout. JK. It was all as predictably off-the-rails as you’d expect, so much so that when Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) made a scene and told Hunter, “You have no balls,” I didn’t even blink. You know the only thing that would have any real shock factor at this point??? If House Republicans politely shook hands with Hunter, or—hey!—what if they all did their jobs?
Hunter crashed the hearing while they weighed whether to punish him for defying House Republicans’ subpoena. In December, as part of Republican’s ongoing impeachment inquiry, he was called to testify before the House Oversight Committee for a closed-door deposition about his international business dealings. House Republicans have largely dedicated their extremely narrow House majority to investigating whether Hunter accepted bribes to enrich his father. Of course, CBS notes that they’ve yet to produce a shred of evidence that President Biden benefited from his son’s business affairs. It sounds like House Republicans are just overestimating a nepo baby’s competence, here.
In any case, Hunter refused to testify before the committee unless he could do so in public, and now, Republicans want to hold him in contempt. So, he stopped by their little Wednesday meeting and, unsurprisingly, made quite the splash—by merely sitting silently in the audience with his attorneys.
“You are the epitome of white privilege. Coming into the Oversight Committee, spitting in our face, ignoring a congressional subpoena to be deposed. What are you afraid of? You have no balls to come up here,” Mace said to Hunter directly, after first snidely asking, “Who bribed Hunter to be here?” Funny! Sometimes I forget she exists, but boy does she act out when she isn’t the main character for more than five minutes. “I think that Hunter Biden should be arrested right here, right now, and go straight to jail,” Mace added, seemingly proposing a citizen’s arrest. Hunter, by contrast, had nothing to say, though he reportedly “smirked” at some of Mace’s remarks.
There’s obviously a lot about Mace’s comments that’s patently insane. But I’m stuck on her proclamation that Hunter has “no balls.” Lady, we’ve all seen them, for no other reason than your colleagues have been forcing us to gape at leaked Hunter Biden dick pics for years. And then there’s the matter of her calling Hunter “the epitome of white privilege”—isn’t acknowledging “white privilege” akin to “critical race theory” for Republicans…? I, for one, think Mace should be censured on the House floor for her appalling anti-white racism.
Hunter reportedly left the meeting 30 minutes after arriving, and I respect that. It’s a valuable skill to be able to suss out a vibe, know it’s not for you, and dip out in a timely manner. But the meeting didn’t get any less crazy after he left and Mace eventually piped down. “[Hunter] blatantly defied two lawful subpoenas. Hunter Biden’s willful refusal to comply with the committee’s subpoenas is a criminal act,” Oversight Committee chairman James Comer (R-KY) said at the meeting. “It constitutes contempt of Congress and warrants referral to the appropriate United States Attorneys Office for prosecution as prescribed by the law.”
Then Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, the top Democrat on the Oversight committee, chimed in for some fact-checking, pointing out that Comer, not Hunter, is obstructing the investigation into the president’s son as Hunter has repeatedly offered to testify in public. By contrast, House Republicans like Reps. Jim Jordan (R-OH), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), and Scott Perry (R-PA) all received and ignored subpoenas for testimony from the House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, to no consequence. A politically motivated double standard to go after the Democratic president’s son who’s never held public office?? Well, color me shocked!
I don’t know. At some point you just have to watch meetings like this—all on the taxpayer dime, all unfolding as the world burns—and concede that the U.S. is a failed state, pack it up, and go home. Best of luck to Hunter, though. I personally find him the least offensive member of any American political family ever.
