Even Celebrities Can Have "Anchor Babies"

Fox News Latino’s referring to Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem’s boy-fetus as an “anchor baby,” because they speak Spanish and also will have the baby in L.A. Even famous actresses aren’t immune to Fox’s slurs, apparently!

The political education group Somos Republicans (“We Are Republicans”) has already issued a statement against Fox’s moronic and offensive headline, demanding that “anchor baby” be replaced with something less bigoted. “Fox News Latino is being insensitive and their actions are reprehensible,” says the statement. “The term ‘anchor baby’ is equivalent to other defamatory terms such as ‘wetback,’ ‘pickaninny’ and ‘tar baby.’ Media outlets should never use these demeaning terms in connection with precious babies, and it is unfortunate that we have to inform FOX News of this when they are typically viewed as conservative.”

Usually Fox (and friends) use “anchor baby” to refer to children of women of more modest means than Cruz. But apparently discrimination doesn’t discriminate.
