Armie Hammer Returned to Instagram; Has Already Made It Weirder
For some reason, the besmirched actor, who's faced accusations of cannibalism and sexual abuse over the past couple of years, is posting on social media again.
CelebritiesMisc. GossArmie Hammer might’ve beaten the cannibalism allegations (for now) but the bizarre behavior claims are alive, well, and as of this week, back on a social media timeline near you. Why? The Call Me By Your Name star and accused sexual abuser has returned to Instagram!
Last week, Hammer posted a video clip of a man—wearing only his underwear—running alongside a horse playing on a laptop. Hammer appears to be filming the clip from a train. Where? Who knows. Such is the allure of one assailed actor. Hammer’s feed also appears to be devoid of any of his old, pre-cannibalism controversy posts. But it doesn’t stop there. Over the weekend, he went on to post a candid of himself lifting weights in what looks to be an unfinished basement complete with exposed insulation on his stories. Now, in case it wasn’t clear that Hammer is a man-on-the-mend, he captioned the photo: “Been a lot of landmines over the last couple years…finally found one that works for me #landminepress.”
And by Sunday, Hammer shared a selfie that included two of his buds and a child on a beach, writing alongside the post: “When the LA welcome committee demands you do a cold water plunge in the ocean right when you get off the plane…”
You get it. He’s back and, to the consensus of the terminally online, being weird. Peep the comments, however, and you’ll note his fans (yes, he’s still got some) are thrilled.
“Look here! A shining star in broad daylight!” wrote one woman. “Our Greek God looking effortlessly gorgeous as always! So happy to see your smile! It’s brighter then the sun,” exclaimed another account. It’s been quite a time for Hammer. In case you’ve blinked his many controversies from memory, let’s revisit a few.
In January 2021, an onslaught of accusations—ranging from sexual assault to emotional abuse and coercion—from women who claimed to have dated Hammer emerged in the press and via damning screenshots of text and DM exchanges on social media.
“He did some things with me that I wasn’t comfortable with. For God knows what reason, he convinced me that these things were OK and he put me in some dangerous situations where I was not OK, where he was heavily drinking, and I wasn’t drinking that way and it scared me. I didn’t feel comfortable,” one ex, Courtney Vucekovich, confided to Page Six. She also told the tabloid that Hammer wanted to “barbecue and eat” her rib. Paige Lorenze, another woman who said to have dated Hammer in 2020, echoed Vucekovich’s claims, alleging that the actor “branded” her. Hammer’s social media activity—namely on his private Instagram account—garnered justified scrutiny, too.
By February of that year, the Los Angeles Police Department began investigating the claims against Hammer—including those from Efrosina “Effie” Angelova who accused him of “violently” raping her—though it ultimately yielded not one single charge for Hammer.
Since the allegations were made public in 2021, Hammer has been dropped by countless films, his publicist, and talent agency. Even still, he managed to find employment selling timeshares in the Cayman Islands, love with a dental hygienist, and an attempt at redemption via an Airmail tell-all in which he vehemently denied any wrongdoing. Regardless, all of his accusers have maintained their allegations.
Well, I guess we’ll—once again—be watching this space.
