Here's a Really Good Video of Toni Basil Dancing to House Music
LatestToni Basil—the dancer, choreographer, and singer best known for the hit 1982 single “Hey Mickey!”—is better at dancing well past retirement age than many of us can ever hope to be. Here she is at 74 getting down to Lady Alma’s “It’s House Music.”
Basil has remained active in the dance community since the peak of her fame in the ‘80s, and she continues to teach, choreograph, and attend workshops. (Along with Don Campbell, who invented locking, Basil was one of the founding members of the Lockers, the legendary early ‘70s dance crew that is universally acknowledged as one of the most important dance crews in hip-hop history.)
In other news, Basil has also been keeping busy by righteously suing everyone who has used “Hey Mickey!” without paying her—the offenders range from South Park to RuPaul’s Drag Race.
