Bristol Palin says she broke up with Levi because “he’s just obsessed with the limelight.” But what happens when he realizes his fame is nothing without the Palin connection?
Bristol told People she was angry when Johnston told her he might be the father of Lanesia Garcia’s baby (Garcia swears he’s not), but “the final straw” was when he went to Hollywood to discuss his appearance in a music video making fun of Sarah Palin. Johnston’s lawyer Rex Butler helpfully opines,
Bristol, if she’s going to be honest, she doesn’t want him in Hollywood ….. She wants him to sort of be like Todd Palin in the background while she does the running around. Levi on the other hand is not ready to settle into that role while he has other options.
And Bristol, who seems to be growing adept at controlling the conversation, responded on Good Morning America:
I see that Levi’s representative said I expected Levi to be more like my dad. Exactly. My dad works his butt off and always put his family first. Every woman should want a husband like that. That is what I expected from Levi.
Despite Butler’s hints that she’s an emasculating shrew, Bristol comes off pretty well here — is it really too much to ask your fiancé not to make parody videos about his son’s grandma? And as for Levi’s “other options,” do they really exist without his connection to the Palins? A while back we speculated that Levi may have re-entered the Palin fold as a way of recapturing the limelight, and if he thinks he can keep Hollywood’s attention by himself, he may be deluded. Even the music video he allegedly abandoned Bristol to film satirized his engagement to her. And if execs thought he and Bristol were too boring for a reality show, imagine how boring he is on his own.
Of all the people involved here, the only one with any real star power is the Mama Grizzly herself, Sarah Palin. Incoherent as she may often be, she knows how to capture media attention and keep it, and she’s certainly not dull. Antics with Kathy Griffin aside, Levi Johnston only matters in relation to her. If he’s planning to go back to being a professional thorn in Sarah’s side, he might be able to work that angle for a while. But if he thinks separating himself from the Palin clan entirely is the way to free himself up for future fame, he’s in for a rude awakening.
