Netflix Sets Premiere Date for Part 2 of Making a Murderer

Two questions and a comment: Haven’t we been through this? How can there be more? I’ll watch it, but never again with the easy curiosity of a person who hasn’t already seen about a hundred hours of this story.

It’s true, Making a Murderer’s “Part 2,” another ten episodes, has been assigned a premier date on Netflix. The show is about a convicted murderer named Steven Avery, along with his co-defendant and nephew Brendan Dassey. According to Deadline, this second installation “provides an in-depth look at the high-stakes post-conviction process, exploring the emotional toll the process takes on all involved.”

The series’ directors, Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, said in a statement about the new season, “Building on Part 1, which documented the experience of the accused, two men each serving life sentences for crimes they maintain they did not commit. We are thrilled to be able to share this new phase of the journey with viewers.”

A new figure is introduced: Kathleen Zellner, whom Deadline describes as “Avery’s hard-charging post-conviction lawyer.” Zellner tries “to prove that Avery was wrongly convicted and win his freedom.” She even “uncovers unexpected evidence about what may have happened to Teresa Halbach,” the woman Avery was convicted of killing.

The show is also expected to be about more attorneys as it follows “Dassey’s post-conviction lawyers, Laura Nirider and Steven Drizin with Northwestern University’s Center on Wrongful Convictions of Youth, as they fight in federal court to prove their client’s confession was involuntary, a fight that could take Brendan’s case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.”

Making a Murderer will premiere on October 19. There’s a lot of TV out there, folks, remember to self-care and shut your eyes from time to time.
