Trump: Trump Would Never Make Joke About That Bimbo Megyn Kelly's Period

Politics

Savannah Guthrie had Donald Trump call in to Today this morning, discussing whether his much-maligned comments about Megyn Kelly having “blood coming out of her…wherever” during Thursday’s GOP debate were, in fact, regarding her menstrual cycle.

Trump, who earlier told CNN’s Jake Tapper that he “cherishes” women and claimed he was referring to her “nose and/or ears,” doubled down on his denial during this morning’s phone call with Today, saying it “wasn’t meant to be much of an insult,” and that if anyone did refer to a female journalist’s period, “it would be inappropriate.”

“She asked me a question, it was an inappropriate question, a ridiculous question…I mentioned something at that particular question, that was the Rosie O’Donnell mention, and the room broke out, it was the largest applause of the day by far, and she got very angry because she couldn’t even finish the question, because the crowd went wild.
In discussing it later, I said she was so angry that blood was coming out of her eyes, blood was coming out of her—and then I didn’t even finish the answer, because I wanted to get on to the next point! But if I finished it, I was going to say “ears or nose,” because that’s a common statement.”

Guthrie pushed on, mentioning a retweet Trump had posted calling Megyn Kelly a “bimbo.” “You publicized that message to 3.6 million people. Do you think she’s a bimbo?” she asked. Trump responded, essentially, with a yes, complaining that Kelly failed to ask him about “jobs” or “nuclear”:

“Well, I thought the kind of questions she was asking me were inappropriate , and they were the [kind of] questions that somebody—you could make the case…every poll says that I won the debate, but I was given the worst questions of anybody.”

Guthrie agreed, adding (bless her) that this echoed his campaign’s overall failure to share any in-depth policy ideas: “One expert I read said you’re ‘like everyone’s Uncle George at Thanksgiving, saying you have all the solutions to the problems, but no specifics.”

For his part, Trump seems more interested, unsurprisingly, in rehashing the specifics of this latest feud. On today’s episode of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, he snarked of Kelly, “She should really be apologizing to me, you want to know the truth. And other candidates have said that.”
