If it is not clear by now that The Wendy Williams Show is the can’t-miss daytime drama of the moment, please accept the clip above as evidence. On Tuesday’s show, while standing in the middle of her audience, Wendy Williams explained that she has been staying at a sober living facility to combat addiction. She announced this with a reference to her history as a “very open and truthful person,” adding, “And I’ve got more to the story for you.”
“For some time now, and even today and beyond, I have been living in a sober house,” she said. She referenced her past struggles with cocaine, saying, “I never went to a place to get the treatment, I don’t know how except God was sitting on my shoulder and I just stopped.”
Williams said after she wraps filming her show for the day, she does two hours of pilates and then attends “several meetings all over the tri-state area.”
“It’s been really interesting, this ride. Only Kevin and Kevin have known about this,” she said, referring to her husband and son (both named Kevin Hunter). “Not my parents. Nobody. Nobody knew ‘cause I look so glamorous out here.”
She said after her meetings, a 24-hour sober coach drives her to the sober house she lives in with “a bunch of smelly boys who’ve become my family.”
“They hog the TV and watch soccer,” she explained. “We talk and read and talk and read and then I get bored with them.” She said lights are out by 10 pm.
“So I go to my room, and I stare at the ceiling, and I fall asleep to wake up to come back here to see you. So that is my truth,” said Williams. “Either you’re calling me crazy or the bravest woman you know, I don’t care.”
She also publicized The Hunter Foundation, the substance-abuse non-profit she has with her husband.
When Williams returned to her show earlier this month, after over two months of absence, she mostly attributed it to thyroid issues and needing time for herself. She did not mention the shoulder fracture that was reported on her show’s Instagram on December as cause for her absence. She did, though, assure people that she was still with her husband in an apparent rebuttal to rumors that they were on the outs after his alleged infidelity.
“I want to shout-out to my husband. I’m still wearing my ring,” she said on the March 4 episode. “Believe me you, when you’ve been with somebody for 28 years, married for 25 years … we know each other. He’s my best friend, he’s my lover. … I know what you’ve been seeing … but hunty, let me show you who I fell in love with and who he fell in love with.”
