A Facebook Employee Will Die in a Game of Thrones Book

You’ll recall George R.R. Martin held a contest to benefit some Santa Fe-based organizations. For $20,000, Martin gave away the opportunity to have a character named after you and then be killed off. There were only two spots available for this prize, and both winners have been selected.
A Facebook employee named Dave Goldblatt nabbed one of the big prizes in Martin’s contest. Dave Goldblatt, 30, will have a character named after him in the next book in the “A Song of Ice of Fire” series. Via ABC News:
Goldblatt said he viewed the first season of the HBO series on the recommendation of a friend, then he immediately read the book series in six months.
When asked whether Martin will morph his name to mimic the designations of fictional noble men and women that sound part-Welsh and part-science fiction, Goldblatt said, “I have no idea. You’re going to have to ask George about that.”
“I’m just lucky enough to be in a position to do this,” said Goldblatt.
He chose to be a Valryian because as he put it “you read some piece of fiction and for whatever reason you think one particular character or race is cool – and for whatever reason, I thought the Valyrians were cool. I’m hoping in future books we get to see more of them.”
The other winner has chosen to remain anonymous (for now). Donations from the contest go to support the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary and The Food Depot.
“Obviously, the money is going to charity, so it’s an added bonus.,” said Goldblatt. “I didn’t immediately seek to help wolf sanctuaries, but the more I read about the charities, I learned it was a worthwhile cause.”
