California Anti-Vaxxers Fight for Their Right to Ruin It for Everybody

Latest

California recently passed SB-277, which drastically tightened the list of excuses that’ll get you out of vaccinating your kids. Unfortunately, anti-vaxxers aren’t ready to cooperate, because that’s how much not vaccinating their kids means to them.

LAist notes that it’s not just celebrities running their mouths on Twitter. Some of the law’s opponents are organizing for their own political push:

They’ve organized as ‘Our Kids, Our Choice,’ and they were cleared by the state yesterday to begin collecting signatures for a referendum to repeal the measure, the L.A. Times reports.
Former Assemblyman Tom Donelly is spearheading the referendum, claiming it’s not about vaccination, but rather “it is about defending the fundamental freedom of a parent to make an informed decision for their children without being unduly penalized by a government that believes it knows best.”

They need 365,880 signatures by the end of September to make it onto the ballot for the November 2016 election. But then they’d need a majority of voters to say “nah” to mandatory vaccinations. Those dueling campaign ads ought to be fun.

Here is your regular reminder about life before vaccination.
