Emma Watson to Play Disney Cartoon Who Won't Stop Singing About Books

Latest

Emma Watson has gotten dangerously close to type-casting with her latest role, in which she will play another bookish mouthy know-it-all with a propensity for large brooding men. Yes, Hermione has been cast as Belle in a live-action version of Beauty in the Beast (again).

This may seem like a bet of dejá vu, and that’s because it is: Watson was previously tied to a different version of Beauty and the Beast, from Warner Bros directed by Guillermo del Toro. When that one got held up, as The Wrap reports, she was brought over to this version, from Disney. Bill Condon (who directed Twilight: Breaking Dawn) will direct the movie, which was written by Stephen Chbosky; Chbosky previously worked with Watson on The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Watson wrote on Facebook that she is SUPER STOKED to be playing Belle.

I’m finally able to tell you… that I will be playing Belle in Disney’s new live-action Beauty and the Beast! It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I’ll get to dance to ‘Be Our Guest’ and sing ‘Something There’. My six year old self is on the ceiling – heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons. I can’t wait for you to see it. Emma xx
