France's New Anti-Domestic Violence Ads Are Pretty Jarring
LatestReleased right before November 25th’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, this pro bono campaign from ad agency BETC is for French women’s rights organization, Ni Putes Ni Soumises (which translates to Neither Whores Nor Submissives).
From Creative Review:
The print ads feature close-ups of bruises captioned as if art works. Closer reading reveals that the captions refer to, in one case, the role played by alcohol in domestic abuse (shown top) or, in the case of the other two ads in the campaign, the fact that domestic abuse can involve rape or even death.
I think the ads are powerful, and creepy, and they made me really, really angry. Not at the ads, but at the problem; I’ve got a queasy feeling in my stomach and I’m ready to take to the streets to avenge all wronged women everywhere! Just right after I have a good cry over “Grave green,” okay?
So, all in all, very effective. And also, did I mention creepy? Because, yeah, realllllly freaking creepy.
